The Troublesome Rays

                                                              The Troublesome Rays

This completely unplanned journey at the behest of my newly discovered cousin has been quite helpful in terms of discovering and exploring various aspects and perspectives in life. Traveling through the capital with a completely new mindset contradictory to the perception I always had of this city, I felt enlightened and also as if I was held back by many wrong notions till now. True said, nothing opens your mind like travel. So with a completely no set itinerary, this journey started and as an avid reader, I had company in the form of a book recently gifted by my age old friend Jay. Knowing my love for the works of Paulo Coelho, I this time received “Like the Flowing River”, a series of incidents and thoughts at various points in the writer’s life. As I mentioned in my social media post when I started reading this book, his words never fail to ignite a spark in me and these words that I now am typing in my smart phone are again a result of the same. I have been into writing for more than 7 years now, working as a freelance content writer, blogger but have noticed my self procrastinating more often than viable. I remember I started writing a motivational book more than 2 years back but have lacked the motivation myself and it has not been completed yet. Yet today, the sudden thrust to start typing into my phone is something that I attribute to the work of Coelho.

On the way to the desert state to visit my extended family and more of a run away from myself and not so favourable situations in life, I have taken time to keep my headphones and social media aside and look outside the window to have a better view of the untraveled roads. This is my first journey on these roads of the northern states and definitely a thing or two would be carried in my memories for quite some years to come. As I sit in the not so comfortable single sleeper sofa in the bus, my window on the east and being noon hours of the inconsistent weather, I feel the sunlight right onto my face and cringe, wrong selection of seat!!! It was rather not a choice but the best among the other available seats and I definitely did not want to sit for the entire stretch of 5-6 hours of my journey. The weather has been shifting from chilling winter winds to blaring sunny afternoons at the blink of an eye.

So I try covering my face with the book and adjust my position a little so as to stay away from the direct light on my face. Immersed in the book, little do I realise that it’s been almost an hour and the sun has finally shifted to an angle wherein the rays now do not reach me directly. Glad, I heave a sigh of relief and go back to my book, looking out at the lush green meadows occasionally, the bill boards, constructions, towns, cities as they pass by, not knowing if I will ever pass the same roads again. The bus takes a pit stop, the passengers alight, use the public conveniences and are back to their seats. I too have followed suite and am back to my seat again. Just as the bus moves out of the covered fuel station, there it happens again. The rays are back, piercing my eyes. But  now I know, this is momentary. Once the bus is back on the highway, the angle of the bus and the position of the sun will be same as before and I would hopefully not be troubled by the rays.

It’s strange how we connect little incidents to bigger aspects in life. I believe this book and it’s contents are impacting my thought at the moment when I think that this is it, all troubles are but momentary. Once we have seen it fade after adjusting the gears and ourselves at different angles, we can either face it or evade it. Nothing stays forever, not even problems. A bit of patience, getting yourself engrossed in better things, useful things, self improvement and spirituality being some among them and the troubles will find their own way out. A thought worth contemplating on while I still face the rays when the bus driver decides to take some turns that disturb my angle of peace.
